The Liebster: The Nomination Is The Award
The ever-hilarious Irene of Left of Plumb nominated me for a Liebster Award. What the heck is it? Great question. Liebster is German for dearest and a five-minute search of the interwebs reveals that this award has been around for some time now. I have not unearthed the origins of this meme and see no harm in playing along. (Though, dear readers, I do have some words of warning about these exercises to share.) Thanks, Irene. I accept.

Think Before You Meme
Like any social activity we engage in for entertainment, there are real dangers in overindulging in internet chain letters, quizzes, and memes. Most who play along do so for a few laughs. Innocent fun, right? Even if your best pal or latest new internet crush only wants to get a good giggle out of you, others who see what you reveal about yourself may not have such good intentions. Online “personality” quizzes are often seeded with the same types of questions large financial institutions use as security checks. Fortunately, with the Liebster, the winning blogger chooses what facts to reveal about themselves. But enough of my paranoia, let’s get to the fun part.
Some Random Facts about Myself
1. My first (non-babysitting) job was cleaning house for a man who has a nuclear plant named after him.
2. I won top prize in a poster contest for a “stop smoking” campaign. I was in grade school at the time.
3. My family makes fun of me for overusing the word “so” in conversation.
4. Based on listening to my own voice in interview transcripts, I bet they switch to making fun of me for saying “sort of” soon.
5. Every time I move or change jobs, I meet another woman whose birthday is within days of mine who does or will play an important role in my life.
6. I named a cat after a character in the King Arthur legend.

8. I lived, for a brief time, in a haunted house in Boston.
